“Imagine the thrill of a naked bike… but without the noise, the fumes, or the gas station stops.”
That is the promise behind Honda’s brand-new WN7, the company’s first full-size electric motorcycle. For many riders, electric motorcycles still feel like a question mark. Are they exciting enough? Can they replace the feeling of a petrol bike? Are they made only for commuting, or can they actually be fun?
With the WN7, Honda is clearly trying to answer those questions with a real motorcycle, not just another small electric scooter.
The WN7 is Honda’s first full-size electric motorcycle for Europe, and it represents a big step for the brand. It takes the familiar idea of a naked bike and reimagines it for the electric age: simple, clean, modern, and made for daily riding. Honda lists the WN7 with a 9.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, up to 140 km of range, Type 2 normal charging, and CCS2 fast charging.
🚀 What Makes the WN7 Special?
The WN7 isn’t just a scooter or a small commuter bike. It’s a true motorcycle built for fun, style, and everyday riding. Honda has taken the classic naked bike formula and reimagined it for an electric future.
One of the most interesting points is the performance. The WN7 is available in two main versions: an 18 kW version aimed at A2 license riders, and an 11 kW version aimed at A1 license riders in Europe. The stronger version can reach a maximum output of 50 kW, while torque is listed at 100 Nm. Honda compares its power to a 600 cc combustion motorcycle and its torque to a 1000 cc class motorcycle.
For riders, this means the WN7 should feel quick and responsive, especially at low and medium speeds. Electric motorcycles deliver torque instantly, so the bike does not need to rev like a petrol engine to feel alive. You twist the throttle, and the power is there immediately.
The range is also important. Honda announces up to 140 km of range for the WN7, based on WMTC testing. For long-distance touring, that number may not be enough for everyone. But for commuting, city riding, short weekend rides, and daily use, it could be very practical.
Charging is another strong point. The WN7 supports CCS2 fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 20 percent to 80 percent in around 30 minutes. It also supports normal Type 2 charging, with a full charge taking less than 2 hours and 30 minutes in Honda’s UK specifications.
Inside the cockpit, the WN7 gets a 5-inch TFT screen with Honda RoadSync. This gives access to features such as smartphone connectivity, navigation, music, and calls. It makes the bike feel modern without losing the simple riding experience that many motorcyclists still want.
🌍 Why It’s a Big Deal
The WN7 shows that Honda isn’t just testing the electric motorcycle market. The brand is finally entering it with something that feels serious.
For years, electric motorcycles were often seen as either small city scooters or very expensive machines from niche brands. Honda is different because it has a huge global reputation. When a company like Honda enters the full-size electric motorcycle segment, people pay attention.
The WN7 is also part of Honda’s larger environmental plan. Honda says it wants to achieve carbon neutrality across all products and corporate activities by 2050, with motorcycle products becoming carbon-neutral by the 2040s. Motorcycle electrification is described by Honda as a core part of that strategy.
This matters because motorcycles are not only about transportation. They are about emotion, freedom, identity, and lifestyle. If electric motorcycles are going to become popular, they need to offer more than clean mobility. They need to feel exciting. They need to make riders want to ride.
That is why the WN7 is important. It is not presented as a boring electric solution. It is presented as a motorcycle with character.
🔍 What We’re Waiting to Know
Even with the official specifications now available, there are still some important questions riders will ask before deciding if the WN7 is for them.
The first question is real-world range. Official range figures are useful, but daily riding can be different. Speed, temperature, riding style, hills, traffic, and battery condition can all affect how far an electric motorcycle can go.
The second question is charging availability. CCS2 fast charging is a great feature, but it depends on the infrastructure around you. In some European countries, charging stations are easy to find. In other regions, riders may still struggle to plan longer trips.
The third question is price. In the UK, Honda lists the WN7 11 kW version from £12,999. Pricing in other markets may vary, and that will play a big role in how riders judge the bike.
Finally, riders will want to know how it feels on the road. Numbers are useful, but motorcycles are emotional machines. Handling, braking, comfort, throttle response, weight distribution, and riding pleasure will decide whether the WN7 becomes a real success.
🏍️ The Road Ahead
The Honda WN7 may not replace petrol motorcycles overnight. Many riders still love the sound of an engine, the feel of gear changes, and the mechanical personality of combustion bikes. For them, silence may feel strange at first.
But the WN7 does not need to convince everyone immediately. Its job is to open the door.
It shows that electric motorcycles are becoming more serious, more stylish, and more usable. It also shows that Honda wants to be part of this future, not just watch from the sidelines.
For city riders, commuters, and people who want a clean and modern motorcycle with instant torque, the WN7 could make a lot of sense. For traditional petrolheads, it may still feel like a big change. But even they may be curious to try it.
The most exciting thing about the WN7 is not only what it is today. It is what it represents for tomorrow. If this is Honda’s first full-size electric motorcycle, then the next ones could be even more powerful, more affordable, and more capable.
🤔 So here’s the question
Would you ride an electric bike like the Honda WN7, or do you still prefer the roar of combustion?
